03 Sep FACTS AND FIGURES SOUTH CENTRAL SOMALIA
The Ministry of Planning and Statistics of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) has the honour to present the first edition of South-Central Facts and Figures.
The first of a series of publications, this book will serve as the main general statistical reference for South-Central Somalia. The data in this book covers various important aspects of economic, social and industrial sectors of life, such as population, climate, social services (education and health), agricultural production, communication and marine production. Although it is based on secondary data, this publication will be used to bridge any existing information gaps until surveys are conducted to collect and compile primary data.
South-Central Facts and Figures will be updated annually, and missing data for the sectors will be incorporated as it becomes available. The Ministry of Planning and Statistics (MOPIC) welcomes comments and suggestions from all users of the data.
We express our sincere gratitude to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Somalia which, through its Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Livelihoods (PRSL) programme, provided substantive technical assistance in the preparation of this publication.
We also remain grateful to the Statistical Unit of the Ministry of Planning and Statistics, headed by the Director-General of MOPAS, Mr Nur Weheliye, and Mr Mohammed Nur, Statistical Consultant, both of whom made the production of this book possible.
The data presented in this publication has been compiled by the Statistical Unit of the MOPIC, with technical support from the UNDP HDEU programme.
